Materials and Procedures for microchip implantation

The Microchip:

a Schematic picture of a typical microchip shows the key components of a RFID microchip. Chip migration is a big concern when implanting microchips into living tissue. Our Chips have a bioglas capsule to prevent chip migration altogether. This means that the chip will always remain stationary at the position of the original implant. When activated by an EM wave as produced by a microchip scanner, the chip electronics will produce a radio signal signature that remains the same. This signal is interpreted by the scanner as an alphanumeric string of characters, that will be the key identifier for the animal with the implanted chip. The chip numbers are goverend by ISO 11784 and 11785 standards and would therefore always be unique in the world.

The Implanter:

a Guidline for the number of implanters necessary per volume of chips are:

  • Less than 40 Microchips requires minimum 2 implanters.
  • Less than 100 Microchips requires minimum 3 implanters.
  • Less than 180 Microchips requires minimum 5 implanters.
  • Less than 280 Microchips requires minimum 6 implanters.
  • More than 279 Microchips requires minimum 8 implanters.

The Needles:

a Guidline for the number of needles necessary per volume of chips are:

  • Less than 40 Microchips requires minimum 2 needles.
  • Less than 100 Microchips requires minimum 5 needles.
  • Less than 180 Microchips requires minimum 8 needles.
  • Less than 280 Microchips requires minimum 9 needles.
  • More than 279 Microchips requires minimum 10 needles.

Smart Scanner:

Windows CE progrmmable LF RFID scanner capable of capturing a variety of herd information like Milk production, Animal weight, Medications, New Calf births, Temperature and Gestation, to name a few which can be downloaded to the HerdWise herd management system.

The Scanner:

The most common used scanner, capable of reading any known microchip code with a storing capacity of 500 barcodes.Very simple to operate with a RS232 interface to download scanned data to a computer.

The Ralgro Implant Gun and Cartridge:

The typical high volume implant gun that takes cartridges with a maximum of 24 loaded microchips. This is an alternative to using syringe type implanters.
